Silver Caves

by Craig Casterline January. 22, 2021 345 views

These photos are of the Silver Caves in Yangshuo. I don't really know how to feel about these pics. As shot, I find the photos fascinating and the colors intriguing. But taken for what they are--caves illuminated by multi-colored lights--the natural beauty seems spoiled.

I think life can be that way as well. There is a natural beauty in many things that we feel we must enhance to make something truly beautiful. The obvious connection would be with physical appearance, but the more subtle connection--and arguably more destructive--is how we dress ourselves up (especially on social media) so that we appear happier, more interesting, more enviable to those around us and even deceive ourselves in the process. Instead, we need to live out our lives unadorned and revel in their beauty of this gift God has given us even though lately life may be a little less than we hoped for.

#1. Amazing. Sure, some may call it kitschy, some may whine about how these lights spoil the original texture of the stalactites and stalagmites but the effect is very interesting and I would love to see it and play with my camera there.

Thank you. Yes, the lights do make the caves more interesting and fun, and, I guess when you get down to it, we do often significantly change photos in post, so it's just another way to improve the subject.

Very nice colors even if they are been "fake". They do enhance the texture smile

That is why I feel ambivalent towards them. I do like them but...

Loved your comment. Almost seemed a little Stoicism creeping into your thoughts and displayed in your photos giving me good thoughts for the morning.smile
