IR in Shenzhen 2

by Craig Casterline May. 09, 2021 293 views

So, here is another IR shot I took in Shenzhen (click here to see the previous shot). Below, you will find the same shot in color, in black and white from IR, and a black and white from color. The only difference is in the settings for the IR and color shots to deal with the loss of light from the IR filter, so you will see some motion in the trees from the wind on the IR shots. I found the black and whites interesting for comparison, especially for the level of grain. I used the same Luminar Look for both of the black and whites just to see how each was rendered.

I like how you are showing us the different versions and comparisons. The IR in this case seems more real to me, color wise, therefor quite appealing. And between the two b&w, the one from IR is sharper in my eyes and not as flat, although as you mentioned grainier but the graininess is not overpowering.

I'm glad you like the comparison. It is an education for me too as I am trying to figure out this IR stuff. #2 is my favorite of the IRs. It has a pop that the color one lacks. Both the B&Ws are nice, but when you zoom in, the one from color is a lot sharper, so I prefer that one.
