A little drive from yesterday

Yesterday I drove from my brother's about an hour and a half north to New Paltz to wander around the Ulster County craft fair. There's one every Memorial and Labor day up at the fair grounds. Haven't gone in years.

Didn't take any in the fair (as you are discouraged from photographing people's work). But here's what I did shoot.

So driving up state on the NYState Thruway the first rest stop is “Sloatsburg” or as known in our family, “The First Pishy Stop.” This was about as far as my mother could get without needing to pee. It used to look more “authentic”.

Now it's got a 2 level parking garage.

What's THAT all about?

(taken through the sun roof).

Finally, got into new Paltz. A little colonial church for gecko.

I like their red door.

New Paltz is a college town and very artsy fartsy. They have a hostel, next to the Trailways station.

Purdy flahrs as they wouldn't let me take any pics in the fair.

more flahrs

Walkill Farm market. Required stop on the way out of town. Not much in the way of produce but I got an ice cream.

It's a sign

Flahrs by the road.

Wallkill river. (again through the sun roof)

Neato building. I don't know what they do here, but I bet it's got something to do with caffeine.

This makes no sense. Do you have any idea how far we are from submarine accessible water? At least 60 or 70 miles.

I have to remember to spend more time wandering around town when I go to this thing. Maybe I'll do a weekend for Labor day and stay up at Mohunk.

New Paltz is one of my favorite hippy-granola towns. Used to have a few tie-dyes from there. Thanks for the visit.
