This shot is back from a road trip I took with my daughter back in the summer of 2014 (I'm currently cleaning out all my desktop files as my Mac is dangerously close to packing it in if I overload it any more!)
We had been feeling somewhat road-weary, and decided, on a whim, to pull off the highway and stop for the night at Hat Creek Ranch in Cache Creek, BC.
The two of us were equally ecstatic when we discovered we could book a tipi for the night! Luckily I had packed an inflatable air mattress along for the trip, as they didn't have cots or bedding inside.
It was a gorgeous night sleeping under the stars, with the sounds of the creek nearby providing a soothing soundtrack for us.
I soon discovered that tipi + me nightshooting + fresh air = there is NO WAY my daughter was going to sleep. At least, not until I did. So I relented and let her run wild in her jammies and bare feet under the stars on that warm, summer night.
I stayed up for ages trying to get that perfect shot I was looking for, but the moon- as beautiful as it was that night - was incredibly full and lit up the land, blowing out the majority of the star trails in my shot. So, what I ended up with was a bit surreal looking, and not quite what I was going for.
Still, I have great memories of that trip, and of that night in particular. Sadly, the tipis are no longer on offer at Hat Creek ranch, but they do have Miners Tents, Covered Wagons and Cabins available for rent for a unique, BC Ranch experience:)
