Sometimes it's a bit difficult to "connect" to certain topics in the way you are "supposed to". You just can't see it. The only thoughts on your mind are "Why?", "Whatever" and so on. It simply doesn't resonate with your heart.
This also applies to photography or specifically certain photographic subjects. Something that could be "picture perfect" for someone may evoke simply a "meh" and the shrug of the shoulders from the next person.
Aside from outer appearances, the back-story or a "deeper meaning" may also contribute to the perceived beauty of the subject. So, here I was in front of supposedly a "sight" but couldn't for the life of me comprehend it. It just looked odd, out of place and lacking purpose. Of course I have to admit that I didn't read up on any back-story either before or after.
I tried different angles and approaches but in the end putting some distance between me and the subject, and administering a monochrome treatment seemed to help a bit.
