Today was the first day this year where I felt it appropriate to say it was hot. After church, a friend asked me if I'd been shooting much and I could only answer no. I thought to myself - the roses can't stand this heat for too long and I haven't been to see them this year (and my camera was itching to get out of the bag).

After lunch, I headed down to the Rose Garden. It isn't the most magnificent of rose gardens (certainly doesn't rival Raleigh, NC's), but it does contain many different colors, shapes, and sizes of roses. The details always catch my attention, and today was no exception. I literally “stopped to smell the roses” today and they smelled ever so sweet.

Strangely, the two quotes that popped into my head as I walked around the rose garden, dodging bees, ants, and other creatures were these:

“What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet”
(Shakespeare, R&J)

“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.”
