surprise Santa visit

'Twas 2 weeks before Christmas when all through the house
There was all kinds of stirring as Cat chased a fake mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney in haste…
When taking care of a toddler, not a minute's to waste.

The child was throwing a tantrum for no reason at all,
Who knew such big yells come from someone so small.
Daddy went out to pick up our dinner: Chinese
And it's bath time for baby, let's hope this will appease…

When out in the cul-de-sac there arose such a clatter,
I ran to the window to see what was the matter.
With baby in my arms I pulled back the curtain
I thought a Ferguson protest had started for certain!

An ambulance cast lights red and blue all around
And a firetruck's horn gave out a mighty loud sound.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a motorized sleigh, and eight light-up reindeer.

With a costumed driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment, it must be St Nick.
More rapid than Jimmy Johns I put my coat on
Bundled baby up and ran out before they were gone.

And then in a twinkling I was out to say hello
And sat up in the sleigh covered in fake snow.
Baby seemed to think the man may be hostile,
So he kept his distance and didn't give him a smile.

A wink of Santa's eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
The camera flashed as we sat in the sleigh,
And I gave Santa my wish list as he went on his way.
(just kidding) ;)

I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight:
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
Daddy arrived with dinner as we waved good-bye
Puzzled, he asked, “Did I just see Santa drive by?”
